Whereas sun is hot,. moon is cool. Moon is the nourisher of all life forms. Sun signifies day, moon the night. Of all celestial bodies moon is the closest to the earth and hence has the maximum influence on earth in terms of magnetic pull. So also the magnetic influences of all other planets reach earth through moon.
Moon has huge influence on herbs and all vegetation. The potency of herbs vary from day to day in relation to moon.
The breath that passes through right nostril( pingala) corresponds to sun and hence is hot and destructive. So also the breath through the left nostril ( Ida) corresponds to moon and is cooling and nourishing.
If sun correspond to brain( head) , moon corresponds to heart. The moon affects our mind on a continuous basis and therefore all our endeavors have a stamp of moon. So by acknowledging the influences of moon and choosing moon as our star of choice, we choose to live a life in tune with nature.
